The Tail Spring is an Item Box power-up that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a Boost Item used primarily to increase the user's speed.

Description

The Tail Spring's icon takes the form of Tangle doing a Spin Attack at high speed with her tail trailing behind her. In gameplay, this power-up becomes a transparent golden bubble that surrounds the user as they bounce and curl up into a ball while moving down the track.

Overview

The Tail Spring can only be obtained when falling behind in a race. This power-up can only be picked up from Item Boxes by Tangle.

Once obtained, the player can utilize the Tail Spring by pressing its icon on the bottom of the HUD. When used, the Tail Spring will increase the speed of the user for about 1.3 seconds. The duration of the Tail Spring is shown by the decreasing gauge on top of this power-up's icon on the bottom of the HUD whenever the Tail Spring is in effect. In addition, while Tail Spring is active, the user will automatically jump at first and be completely invulnerable to any obstacle and attack, except for bottomless pits.
