The Chest is an object that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. They are rewards that the player receives over the course of the playthrough of Sonic Forces: Speed Battle.

Overview

There are twenty-two different chests in Sonic Forces: Speed Battle, which can be split into eight different categories:

Free Chests

Free Chests are available every 8 hours and are the most basic kind of chest. Each Free Chest contains 6 Red Star Rings.

Battle Chests

There are four different kinds of Battle Chests: 1st Place Chest, 2nd Place Chest, 3rd Place Chest, and 4th Place Chest. Players can obtain twenty Battle Chests per day (one per battle) and receive them depending on how they place after finishing a race. Getting 1st place ensures them the 1st Place Chest containing the greatest number of cards while finishing in 4th place will award the player a 4th Place Chest with the least number of cards.

Victory Chests

Victory Chests are awarded to players who place 1st and 2nd in races. There is no limit to how many Victory Chests one can obtain in a day, but one can only hold four chests at a time. After obtaining them, the Victory Chests must be unlocked in order to obtain its rewards. To unlock a Victory Chest, the player must select it, and then must either wait for a certain amount of time which the chest is unlocked afterwards, spend Red Star Rings in order to unlock them immediately, or view an advertisement to speed up the unlocking process by 3 hours. Platinum and Emerald chests cannot be unlocked by watching ads. When unlocking via waiting, only one Victory Chest can be unlocked at a time, although its Red Star Ring cost decreases in proportion to the amount of time waited, allowing the player to still unlock the Victory Chest by spending a reduced cost of Red Star Rings. Any other Victory Chests can still be unlocked with Red Star Rings or advertisements, although only 15 advertisements may be used to unlock chests each day, resetting at 12:00 am UTC.

There are four different kinds of Victory Chests (from worst to best): Silver Chest, Gold Chest, Platinum Chest, and Emerald Chest. Getting 1st place in a race does not guarantee a rarer variety of the received chest. Emerald Chests are the rarest chest in the game, followed by Platinum Chests as the second rarest, with Gold and Silver Chests being third and fourth rarest, respectively.

Season Chests

Season Chests are awarded at the end of every season, with the quality of the chest depending on which Tier the player was in at the end of the season. To qualify for a season chest, the player must finish first in a race at least three times while being in Tier 4 or higher.

Gift Chests

Gift Chests are special chests given out on certain occasions, such as finishing the game's tutorial or participating in events. Their contents vary from each time they are obtained.

Team VS chests

During Team VS Events, players are placed into either featured character's team. Depending on which team scores the most points during the event, they will receive one of the following chests:

Challenger Chests

In races with a Challenger bot, placing 1st or 2nd place does not grant a standard Victory Chest, rather, a Challenger chest is received instead. Despite taking only 30 minutes to unlock, they still require 30 Red Star Rings to open immediately, with the cost decreasing by 1 every minute. Challenger Chest contents opened during the corresponding event will also go into Tails' Vault.

Rival Race Chests

Similar to Challenger Chests, except there is a bot as Special character, also known as Rival Racer. Placing 1st or 2nd place in the battle with Rival Racer will grant a Rival Race Chest. Despite taking only 30 minutes to unlock, they still require 30 Red Star Rings to open immediately, with the cost decreasing by 1 every minute. Rival Race Chest contents opened during the corresponding event will also go into Tails' Vault.

Other Chests

On top of the basic chests, each event character gets their own unique design for a chest that is usually colored and styled around that character. they all feature the same basic design of a celebration XL chest or a winner's chest from a verses event. They contain either 31 (returning character), 41 (new event character), or 51 (new challenger character) cards depending on the current event. However, these chests do not count towards "Treasure Hunter" missions, which require opening a certain number of chests.

In the Store, chests will also be available for sale, each with different appearances, different prices and different contents.

Additionally, with the inclusion of Bonus Events, Bonus event character's chests will always be a blue design, regardless of what their original event design was. These chests always contain 26 cards.
