The Lockup is an Item Box power-up that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series
Description The Lockup's icon is a form of a silver metal padlock with a yellow light on its left.
Overview In gameplay, the Lockup can only be obtained at random from Item Boxes by Detective Vector and Sheriff Sonic . As with most other Items, Metal Sonic and Metal Sonic Mach 3.0 can also use the Lockup if they use the Steal Item, or Fortune Teller Amy if she uses Lucky Draw or Wall of Cards to steal it from the aforementioned users.
Once obtained, the player can utilize the Lockup by pressing its icon on the bottom of the HUD. When used, the Lockup will drop pop-up prisons some distance ahead of the user's current location on all the lanes that the user is not currently on. If a character, including user themselves, touches one of these pop-up prisons, causing them lose Rings , and be trapped in a gray prisons, making them uncontrollable (much similar to frozen ). Similar to the effect of the Gift Wrapped , the Lockup will disabled in a certain time (instead of being hit obstacles as well as Badniks included). To avoid the Lockup, the playable character must either jump over its portals or run in-between them.
The Lockup can also be upgraded by leveling the user up to level 4, 10 and 16 respectively. For each upgrade, the player will increase the damage dealt with the Lockup.
Trivia Upon its inclusion in the 4.31.0 update, the Lockup causes all the power-ups in-game, which effect the characters as freezing , glitching that invulnerable from obstacles and Badniks, except power-ups. This was fixed in 5.1.0 update
