Not to be confused with Gate key.

The Gate Key[1] is an object that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a Key Stone used to unlock Gate Key Doors.

Description

Gate Keys are slightly larger than basket balls. Resembling statues, they have a white dome with a four-pointed star-marking on the top and as a foot.

Overview

In Sonic Adventure 2 and its enhanced port Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, the Gate Keys are only seen in Pyramid Cave. In gameplay, they are used to open Gate Key Doors which block the player's path. The Gate Keys are always located nearby their appointed Gate Key Door, which the player must find, pick up and bring it to the pedestal in front of the Gate Key Door which has a hole identical to the Gate Key's foot in the center. Placing the Gate Key into this fixture will unlock the Gate Key Door. Also, if just placed in the proximity the fixture, the Gate Key will automatically insert itself.
