Tag Mode is a multiplayer mode in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) where two players must work together to reach the goal.

Gameplay

In Tag Mode, the two players must work together to collect the Chaos Emeralds found at the end of the stages. There is no winner to this mode, instead being solely about teamwork and working together to reach the end of the goal, and the mode is completed when all seven Chaos Emeralds are collected. The players can choose to play as Sonic, Shadow, and/or Silver, but cannot play as the same character, and will start out with five lives and will have access to any technique unlocked within the story modes.

Stages

The stages feature unique level design tailored for the two players to work together.

A single act of the following stages are played in Tag Mode (listed in order of progression):

Trivia

• Tag Mode originally had a story revolving around Sonic and Shadow working together to collect the Chaos Emeralds before Dr. Eggman. Many voice clips and pieces of text remain within the game that alludes to this.
