The Intelligence Chip,^[1] also known as the Smart Chip,^[1] is an object that appears in the Sonic Boom series. It is a chip which can be inserted into a robot to grant them genius-level intelligence. It is the source of Bolts’ intelligence.

Description

Appearance

The Intelligence Chip is a small, black chip with glowing, light blue lines on one side forming a circle with three lines coming off it.^[1]

Features and abilities

When inserted into a robot, the Intelligence Chip grants the robot super-intelligence,^[1] matching that of Tails’ and Dr. Eggman’s.^[2] As such, the chip allows robots to invent, operate, and tinker with machines.^[3][4] It also grants a robot brilliant strategic skill, enabling them to outmaneuver and outsmart their enemies. The Intelligence Chip also allows its user to think at an incredible speed, enabling them to perform advanced mathematical calculations instantaneously.^[1]

Season two

When Dr. Eggman visited Roboken on a family vacation, he got the idea to steal Bolts’ Intelligence Chip. After stealing it, he returned to Seaside Island and inserted it into a Fire Bot. Team Sonic then arrived with Mighton and Cyborg Sonic to retrieve the Intelligence Chip. The Fire Bot used its new intellect to use strategy to fight the heroes, but was soon defeated, though it ejected the Intelligence Chip just before the heroes destroyed it, and the chip landed in a Motobug. The super-intelligent Motobug then proceeded to fight the heroes, but was quickly destroyed as well, though the Motobug also ejected the Intelligence Chip before it was destroyed, which was then claimed by a Bee Bot. The Bee Bot then fought the heroes, but was also destroyed, ejecting the Intelligence Chip into another Bee Bot. The heroes then repeated the process with the second Bee Bot and two more of Eggman’s robots, before the chip finally landed in Mombot. Unwilling to see the heroes destroy Mombot, Eggman willingly, albeit reluctantly, removed the chip and gave it back to the heroes, who reinserted it into Bolts.^[1]

Trivia

• The Intelligence Chip looks identical to the Symbiont Chip and Voice Chip.
• The Intelligence Chip is very similar to the Genius Chip from the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog episode “Grounder the Genius”. Both are chips which increase their user’s intellect.
